Who we are:
Brother
Tongue produces English Translations of contemporary and classic European
plays.
Our goal
is to create imaginative and thought-provoking theatre by opening up the
process of translation to include all aspects of production. We believe
that directors, actors, designers and producers all have a responsibility
to ‘translate’.
By
broadening the appeal of plays from the continent without compromising
their cultural identity we aim to find new ways of directly engaging a
diverse British audience with the richness of European drama.

Praise for Brother Tongue’s 2009 production of About
Tommy at Southwark Playhouse:
“Elly Green’s visually
eloquent production” ***Time Out
“pathos-tinged
humour” - The Stage
“Hits home … is in its evocation of the nightmarish
absurdity of its situation … Leading a committed cast, Gwilym Lee persuasively
conveys Tommy's intensifying torment.” *** The Times
